Clearwater Surfboards was founded in 1987 and purchased by Steve Del Rosso in 1996. Steve began his shaping career in 1986 along the way learning and honing his skills from some of the masters of the surfboard industry, namely Burt Burger, Simon Anderson, Col Ladhams, Mick Manolas, DHD, Murray Bourton, Mick Button and Lufi, all this well before the advent of today’s shaping/profiling machines.
In 2007 Steve relocated the Clearwater manufacturing side of the business to Currumbin on the Gold Coast, refining boards to suit both East and West Coast conditions. Steve has a detailed eye and passion for both shortboard and longboard design and innovation not often shown by current shapers. The team he has assembled at Clearwater offer a wealth of experience in surfboard manufacturing and it shows in the quality, look and ride of the finished product.
Steve befriended and sponsored Gold Coast surfing legend Mark “Macca” McNamara with Macca riding Clearwater boards in winning several Aussie Longboard Titles. Macca worked at Clearwater until his sudden passing in 2015 and the “Macca” model celebrates his memory.
Clint Guest, 2014 Australian Open Longboard and 2015 Australian Logger champion and 2014/15 World Title Competitor rides exclusively for Clearwater along with multiple WA Whalebone champion Heath Norrish, Wa’s Ladies Champ Georgia Young along with Dan Corbett, Mick Corbett, Joel Tilly, Max Marsden, Duke Nagtzaam, Taj Watson, Denver Young and a select group of other form the current Clearwater team.
